January 24, 2014
Dear Parents and Students,
As you know, the raffle draw is fast
approaching. Only a week left before the January 31st draw. You are
welcome to join us for the draw which will take place in the gym at 2:40.
We wanted to thank all of the students
and parents for their support with the raffle in selling and purchasing
tickets.
Many of the students have also taken
on special tasks such as visiting classes and telling the other students about
the new individual prizes. Thank you so much for your efforts.
Thank you also to the families and
community businesses for your generous donations of prizes for the raffle. We
have an unbelievable assortment of prizes to be won! It is very much
appreciated.
We wanted to share a little
information about why we are doing this particular fundraiser. Our goal is to
improve the conditions of the field behind the school. The Limestone District
School Board will be providing some of the funding, however, the School Council
would like to significantly enhance the field and play areas. Therefore,
additional fundraising support is needed.
The first priority is to enhance the
drainage and improve the landscaping to reduce the mud, water and ice
accumulation. The areas to be addressed include near the bicycle racks, near
the portable and near the large tree opposite Hill Street. Depending on funds
made available by the school board and those raised through fundraising, a
walking path will be landscaped between the Hill Street gate and the primary
entrance doors.
The second priority is to remove the
pea gravel from the back two play structures and replace it with artificial
turf similar to that which is in the Kindergarten Bee Hive.
Another project is to sand blast and
re-paint the play structure, as well as replace the slide.
There are still tickets available for
sale and sales will continue until Friday, January 31st
at 1:30. Tickets can be purchased from
the students or by leaving a message at the school office.
Thank you again for your continued
support and best of luck with the raffle!
Sincerely,
The 2013-14 Winston Churchill School
Council
